North to Alaska!

Fairbanks, Ala., Jan. 16, 2007EAA Chapter 1129 (Fairbanks, AK) is most likely the northern-most EAA Chapter. But despite their location, the Chapter does manage to fly Young Eagles

Recently, EAA Chapter 1129 member H. Lee Griffin wrote to share a Young Eagles experience. Griffin flies a
North American T-28B, which he lovingly calls “BUB” for “Big Ugly Beast.”

Griffin acquired the aircraft in May 1993 and began restoring it. He obtained a title from the
National Museum of Naval Aviation in 1996 flew “BUB” for the first time in August 1999.

”I know that it needs a new paint job as it is still proudly wearing its 1976 NARF (Naval Air Rework Facility) Pensacola paint,” Griffin said.

He gave two Young Eagle rides on July 26, 2006. Each ride lasted about 45 minutes, saying, “Both of the lads were duly impressed!”

Griffin said the T-28 really gets his Young Eagle’s attention, especially when the preflight briefing covers bailout procedures! This Young Eagles flight comes complete with helmet and a
Butler Parachute.

Five EAA Chapter 1129 members participated in flights as part of the
University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Science Camp.
