EAA Chapter 958 Flies 105 Young Eagles!

New Braunfels, Tex. – January 6, 2005 – With the dedication of ten pilots, the ground crew and support from the New Braunfels airport staff, EAA Chapter 958 flew 105 EAA Young Eagles on November 12. Chapter President, Steve White commented, “One of our primary goals and responsibilities is to help promote aviation to the next generation of pilots. Our Chapter is proud of this most recent accomplishment!”

Students from all over the area, including a large group of Air Force Junior ROTC students, were invited to the airport at 9:30a.m., but arrived an hour and a half early in anticipation of their Young Eagles flights. Some of the kids were uneasy as they climbed into the planes, but their worries soon subsided as they took off. All the new Young Eagles were excited and grateful for the experience as they landed.

Gwen Cunningham, Project Director of Communities in Schools of the Smithson Valley Middle School later wrote, “This event is always a wonderful experience for the kids and for some of them it is a life-changing experience. The kids talk about flying for months and sometimes even years after they get to go. Thank you so much for all the time, energy and money that goes into putting these events on for the community.”
