You gotta be there!

Oshkosh, Wis. – July 5, 2006 – Where can you see a bright yellow plane that smiles at you, a reunion of big bombers, today’s military aircraft including the B1-B Lancer bomber and the C-17 cargo plane, the newest light jets and much more, all at the same place?

Only at
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2006. The 54th annual fly-in convention takes place July 24-30 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

After a full opening day of flying on July 24, AirVenture guests can also hear the
Beach Boys, compliments of Ford Motor Company. The free performance will be held at 6-8 p.m. adjacent to the Ford Motor Company Hangar on AeroShell Square.

With more than 10,000 aircraft, 2,500 show planes, 800 exhibitors, and 500 forums and hands-on workshops, here are just some of the highlights for this year’s fly-in convention:

  • Duggy,” the Douglas DC-3 known as “The Smile in the Sky,” will be parked on AeroShell Square and be used as a “jump plane” by the Liberty Parachute Team for the opening of the afternoon air show each day.
  • A one-of-a-kind reunion of the Allied Forces' big bombers - including a B-17, B-24, B-25, and British Lancaster aircraft - all performing fly-overs and fly-bys with pyrotechnics.
  • Some of today’s most awe-inspiring military aircraft - including the B-1B, F-16, FA-18, and A-10 – will be there to see. In addition, a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III, a strategic airlifter cargo plane, will arrive on July 27 from March Air Force Base in California and depart July 30, performing several flight demonstrations throughout its visit. When not flying, it will be on static display at AeroShell Square.
  • U.S. Navy Blue Angels pilot Lt. Kevin “Kojak” Davis and his No. 7 Blue Angels F/A-18 two-place aircraft will arrive July 23 and depart on July 26. The F/A-18 Hornet will be parked at AeroShell Square on July 24-25.
  • KidVenture, located near the EAA AirVenture Museum offers a wide range of hands-on activities from flying control line model airplanes to simulators, building projects and a chance to go fly a kite! Check it out.
  • A groundbreaking display at the EAA AirVenture Museum that explores the rapidly emerging era of civilian spacecraft and space tourism will be dedicated during the convention. The new exhibit includes a full-size replica of SpaceShipOne, the world’s first successful civilian-built spacecraft, made from the same molds as the original craft that won the $10 million Ansari X Prize in 2004.
  • An enhanced Light-Sport Aircraft mall, displaying dozens of the new, more affordable, factory-built planes. The LSA designation significantly lowers the cost and time commitment barriers to becoming a pilot.
  • Amazing flight demonstrations and aerobatic performances during the daily air show by top names such as Sean D. Tucker, Patty Wagstaff, Jim Leroy and Red Bull Air Race competitor Mike Goulian. For a complete listing of air show performers, click here.
