EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2005 – August 31, 2005 – One of the many education outreach events that take place during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is Teacher’s Day. Now in its seventh year, EAA member educators and teachers from the Oshkosh area are invited to attend and learn creative ways to use aviation in their classrooms.
EAA’s Dr. Lee Siudzinski hosted the opening session. Brief presentations were made by a number of people including Dick Rutan, Voyager Pilot; Michael Thompson of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction; Jeff Elmer of EAA’s AeroScholars; Chuck Larsen, EAA’s Executive Director of Residence Education programs; and Jamail Larkins, FAA and EAA Young Eagles spokesperson.
Featured speaker Ken Cook, President of National Coalition for Aviation Education, presented the Mervin K. Stickler Award for “Lifelong Contributions and Personal Commitment to Aerospace Education” to Mr. Tom Wathen of Riverside, CA.
The keynote speaker was Marion Blakey, FAA Administrator, who encouraged teachers and educators to harness the power of flight to help young people reach new heights in their personal and professional lives.
The opening session was followed by smaller, breakout sessions. There were two one-hour blocks of time to attend these meetings and nine different sessions available per hour.
