EAA Young Eagles - Ask the Expert

Question :
Hi. Are all U.S. Navy F-14s now retired, or are there some F-14s that are waiting to be retired and are still on active duty? If so, what squadrons are they in Thanks!
-Bret

Answer :
Hi Bret,

All of the U.S. Navy’s F-14 Tomcats have been retired. The official final flight of the Tomcat was on September 22, 2006 at Naval Air Station Oceana. The actual last flight of the F-14 Tomcat in US service took place October 4, 2006, when an F-14D of VF-31 was ferried from NAS Oceana to Republic Airport on Long Island, NY.
The remaining intact F-14 aircraft are preserved at the Davis-Monthan "boneyard". Some of which still remain in War Reserve status ready to be reactivated for service if needed

Thanks for asking,
EAA Young Eagles
