EAA Young Eagles - Ask the Expert

Question :
Can you be too short to be an airline pilot?

Answer :
The military has height limitations for some very good reasons. In the T-37, if your legs were too long, you would lose your knees if you ejected! The military fighters have adjustable rudder pedals, but the seats themselves do not move fore and aft. On airliners, both the pedals and the seats are adjustable. This pretty much fits most people. I am not aware of a height limit on my airline. One limiting factor on being too short would be if you could not reach full rudder deflection even with the seat and pedals adjusted.
