EAA Young Eagles - Ask the Expert

Question :
How much does an average small airplane cost?

Answer :
That's a tough question! Assuming that an airworthy plane is needed, an older, smaller, used plane with old or minimal radios and instruments, that has a lot of flying time on the engine and airframe, can be purchased for as little as $10,000. A new one, with the latest in avionics (aviation electronics)could cost half a million dollars. And there's everything in between.
One of the most common General Aviation planes is the Cessna 172. Good used 172s typically cost anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000. A smaller version, the Cessna 150/152, might typically cost half that.

I hope this helps answer your question.
