EAA Young Eagles - Ask the Expert

Question :
Can the F-22 Raptor land on an aircraft carrier?

Answer :
The F-22 was designed as a land-based fighter only and is not strong enough to survive a carrier landing. The F-35, which is a fighter that can be land-based, carrier-based and can takeoff and land vertically, is in testing right now, and will be available to the Navy in about 4 years. The F-35 is not as capable as the F-22 as far as speed, maneuverability or stealth, but it has a large bomb capability, has newer avionics, and is less expensive.
