EAA Young Eagles - Ask the Expert

Question :
What's the youngest age to start training?

Answer :
You can start learning how to fly now if you want. There is no minimum age for starting flight lessons. You will have to wait until you are 16 before you can fly an airplane solo (14 for gliders). You have to be 17 to earn your pilot certificate. Most flight instructors will suggest you wait until you are 14 or 15 before starting lessons.
Now is a perfect time to begin studying the ground school portion of flight training. It will help once you begin flying.
We’re glad to see you have such an interest in flying. The sky is yours!
