Young Eagles Flight Plan
EAA Pays for Young Eagles FAA Knowledge Exams
As part of our new Young Eagles Flight Plan program, EAA is willing to reimburse you when you pass the FAA knowledge exam once you let us know. To be eligible for reimbursement, you must be a Young Eagle between ages 16 and 19 who has completed the Sporty's Complete Pilot Training program. Once you pass your FAA exam, send EAA a copy of your results, and we'll send you a check. It's that easy. We want you to learn to fly and we're willing to help. It's just one more way that our new Young Eagles Flight Plan will help you move from the right seat to the left seat. Already meet the requirements? Contact Brian O'Lena.

Young Eagles/Sporty's Grad Passes Checkride
On September 20, 2010, the day Daniel Manzani celebrated his 17th birthday, he also passed his checkride and is now a private pilot. A resident of Temecula, California, Daniel got his first taste of general aviation via a Young Eagles flight on October 18, 2008, with Gary Timbs (EAA 796894, Warbirds of America 553929) in Gary's Cessna 180.

The flight inspired the teen to take the online Sporty's Complete Pilot Training Course, which prepares student pilots for the FAA written exam and is provided free to all Young Eagles. Daniel, who soloed on his 16th birthday, is among the first Young Eagles to complete the Sporty's course and pass the exam. He also applied for and received a $1,500 EAA flight training scholarship. Tyler's Tailwind
When I look at aviation, I see many great things involved with it. One thing that really stands out is the people you come in contact with. You meet new pilots, you get to know the local pilots, and a bonding starts. As pilots and those who aspire to become pilots, we have the same love of aviation that draws us together. As a student pilot and even now as a private pilot, I've had pilots come to me and tell me that they would take me up whenever I wanted. I've even had someone tell me when I get my high-performance endorsement that the keys to his Cessna 182 are available.
Tyler
Tyler Whitney took this photo at a local flying event he attended in Michigan this past summer.
In August, my instructor, Jeff Ostrander (EAA 866844), organized a gathering near Grand Rapids, Michigan, where 35 pilots from the surrounding areas got together for an evening of looking at each other's airplanes and talking about their love of flying. Seeing student pilots and those who are corporate pilots intermingling and discussing aviation is really what aviation is all about.

Till next month, happy flying!
- Tyler Whitney, EAA 1019639

Each issue, Tyler Whitney of Michigan will provide a Young Eagle-turned-Young Eagle pilot perspective on aviation. Tyler was the first Young Eagle to pass his private pilot knowledge exam after completing the Sporty's Complete Pilot Training Course.
