EAA AirVenture Oshkosh Returns

EAA Headquarters – June 5, 2007 – What do the Goodyear blimp, the U-2 Spy Plane, the Beach Boys and the F-22 Raptor have in common?
|
Give up?

They’ll all be at
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007, plus much more.

The 55th annual fly-in convention runs July 23-29 at
Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The
"Spirit of Goodyear" will be on-site throughout the week and will be flying regularly. It will be moored near the EAA AirVenture Museum's Pioneer Airport for up-close viewing at other times.

The last time the Goodyear blimp came to Oshkosh was 1988, but this will be a first for the “Spirit of Goodyear,” which was placed into service in March 2000.

The
Lockheed U-2, an aircraft that grabbed headlines and imaginations during the height of the Cold War and still is a key "eye in the sky" for the U.S. military, will also be at AirVenture to help the U.S. Air Force commemorate its 60th anniversary.

This year's arrival of the U-2 marks the first appearance at Oshkosh since 1997. It is currently scheduled to be at EAA AirVenture on July 26-29 and will be parked at AeroShell Square. In addition, a U.S. Air Force's
T-38 used in support of U-2 missions will also be part of the display.

The
Beach Boys will be back for more “fun, fun, fun” with an opening evening concert compliments of Eclipse Aviation and the Ford Motor Company beginning at 5:30 p.m. July 23. The band has sold more than 100 million albums over the past four decades and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

The
Lockheed F-22 “Raptor,” one of the world’s most advanced military jets, will be center-stage during the convention. Two of the airplanes will arrive and do an aerial performance on July 26 and at least one Raptor will fly an aerial demonstration each afternoon on Friday through Sunday, July 27-29. At other times, the F-22s will be parked on AeroShell Square.

And the more? Well, here’s just a sampling to choose from:

    • See six of the world’s finest restored vintage aircraft, which will be participating in the National Aviation Hall of Fame's first "Best of the Best" People's Choice Award competition. Convention-goers will be able to vote for their favorite vintage craft.

    • See world-class air shows featuring performers such as Sean D. Tucker, Patty Wagstaff, Michael Goulian and others.

    • Watch nightly outdoor screenings of the best aviation films.

    • Choose from hundreds of workshops and forums to attend.

    • See what’s new as more than 800 exhibitors showcase their products.

If you want to see it all, you just have to go to Oshkosh!

The U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor made quite an impression at last year’s event. This year, the F-22 will fly demonstration flights and be on display. In addition, the F-22 pilot will talk about flying this high-tech jet at Theater in the Woods on Thursday evening, July 26.

The U-2 Reconnaissance “spyplane” is another of the featured aircraft at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007. From the latest military hardware to homebuilt aircraft and restorations, AirVenture will be home to nearly 10,000 airplanes.

The famous Goodyear blimp “Spirit of Goodyear” will be in Oshkosh this summer. This will be the first time a Goodyear blimp has visited the event since 1988.
