UPDATE(October 9, 2006) Race Results
San Francisco, October 4, 2006 – The Red Bull Air Race World Series heads to San Francisco for the second year on October 7. Featuring some of the world’s most talented pilots, the slalom course will challenge every racer’s precision, speed and skill.
This Saturday’s race will be the eighth stop in the 2006 series. Pilots will fly over San Francisco Bay between Marina Green and Aquatic Park before the series wraps up in Perth, Australia in November.
Racers will gain crucial ranking points as spectators gaze from close proximity, witnessing aircraft fly overhead at speeds of more than 230mph.
Currently leading is American Kirby Chambliss with 28 points, trailed by 2005 Red Bull Air Race Champion Mike Mangold and Hungarian racer Peter Besenyei, both with 24 points. When Kirby was asked how it felt to be back in San Francisco, he said, “I was second in San Francisco last year. I am looking forward to correcting that.”
With three Americans in the top five, viewers are almost guaranteed a promising day.
The Red Bull Air Race World Series will air October 15 on Fox Sports Network at 12:30-2:30 p.m. PST. Additionally you can view the highlights of each race at the official Red Bull Air Race Web site.
The race will go on during San Francisco’s Fleet Week, which is an annual event honoring the men and women serving in the United States Navy, Coast Guard and Marines and it features the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
